Auditorium Kalam gave his last speech to be named after him

The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, will honor its most beloved mentor, former president of India APJ Abdul Kalam, the 84th anniversary of his birth on Thursday. Kalam died as he addressed students on campus July 27.


IIM Shillong has lined up a number of events in honor of Kalam. Among other things, the auditorium where he delivered his last speech will be named after him, and his portrait will be unveiled by the students.

Director of IIM Shillong Amitabha From The Hindu said that the institute Kalam looked more like a teacher of a former president. "Usually IIMs are more interested in seminars on management and social issues. But since Dr. Kalam was a scientist, we are organizing a seminar entitled Science and Humanism for national development, "said Professor De.

Senior officials of the Indian Organization of the search space (ISRO) and the Agency for Defence Development Research (DRDA) will attend the event. It will be the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ramakrishna Vivekananda, West Bengal.

Although this is a birthday celebration birth, it would be a solemn event where students remember their favorite teacher, senior officials of the institute said.

"On July 27, Dr. Kalam was to deal with second-year students. It was scheduled to speak for us [the freshmen] the next day. We were all very excited, but unfortunately it never happened" Parul Jain said a freshman.

The former president had visited the Institute over the last three years and do a course with students. He suffered a massive heart attack as he delivered a lecture and died a little later.

"There were no courses in the institute the next day. We planted saplings and gathered in the auditorium to honor him," said one student.
