12 Rare Stories About Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Will Make Your Day Today.

#1. Once, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam rejected the suggestion to put broken glass on the wall of a building that needed protection. Why? Because broken glass would be harmful for birds!

This happened when Dr. Kalam was with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and his team was discussing options to secure the perimeter of a building that needed protection. Dr. Kalam reportedly said: “If we do that, birds will not be able to perch on the wall.”

#2. When young people and adolescents have requested a meeting with President Kalam, the President not only obliged and gave the children of his valuable time, but he also listened to the ideas that the children had carefully!

As president, often the office of Dr. Kalam would receive applications from young people for a meeting with the first citizen of the country. Dr. Kalam not only meet the children in their personal rooms at Rashtrapati Bhavan, but it would also give them precious time, "listen" to their ideas and provide feedback to children. On occasion, the President would follow up with these children ask about the status of the ideas they discussed!

#3.Shortly after it was declared that Dr Kalam would be the next president, he visited a small school for a speech. His security was minimal, and he does not mind to take control of the situation when the power went off.

Speaking to about 400 students, Dr Kalam assured the power outage did not cause any interruption. He walked in the middle of the crowd and asked the students to surround him. He then talked about 400 students with his bare voice and delivered, as always, a stimulating program.

#4. President Kalam has given all his life savings and wages to a trust he founded called PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas).

The government supports the President of India and all former presidents. Knowing this, Dr. Kalam during his tenure as president has decided to give all his wealth and life savings into a fund that is working to provide urban amenities in rural population. Apparently, Dr. Kalam called Dr. Verghese Kurien, the founder of Amul, and asked, "Now that I became the President of India, the government will take care of me until I am alive; So what can I do with my savings and salary? "

#5. President Kalam is known to write his own thank you cards.

As is humble and generous man, President Kalam is known to sign his own thank you cards. An example is when the user Quora Naman Narain drew a sketch of Dr. Kalam and sent to the President. To his surprise, the President sent him a thank you card, with a short handwritten message and personalized with his signature.

#6.Supposed to attend a university event as guest conductor, APJ both surprised students of the organizing committee of the event by visiting them late at night.

Once, Dr. Kalam was to be a guest of honor at a university event. He was not the president at the time, but held an important office in the DRDO and was one of the main advisers to the government. Curious to see kids prep for a big event, Kalam decided to pay a visit to the room. He came in a jeep, without any security, and spoke to the students on the site. He said he wanted to meet "real people who work hard."

#7.Dr. Kalam is so humble, he would not mind going to a rather late event for the sake of letting her fans take photos with him!

Dr. Kalam was the guest of honor at an event at the IIM Ahmedabad recentlxy. Before the event, he lunched with a class of sixty students. At the end of lunch, students each wanted a picture with the former president. Citing the delay, attempted the event organizer to choke off students; but to the surprise of everyone Dr Kalam asked the organizer to calm down and said he will not leave the square until each person who wanted a picture with him got a picture!

#8.Once at an event, Dr Kalam refused to sit on a chair that was assigned to him - because the president was larger than other chairs!

On a recent call-IIT Varanasi, Dr Kalam was the guest of honor. There were five chairs on the stage, in the center of a being to Dr Kalam, the other four nominated for top university officials. Noticing his chair being larger in size than the other, Dr. Kalam refused to sit on it and offered the Vice Chancellor to sit instead. VC could not, obviously. Undoubtedly, another chair was immediately made available to the honorable former president!

#9.When a subordinate of President Kalam at DRDO could not take his children to exposure due to work pressure, Kalam surprised his subordinate and took the children instead!

In a major project of the DRDO, the working pressure was high. A scientist approached his boss - Dr. Kalam - and asked to leave early that day because he had promised his children to take them to a show. Kalam generously granted permission, and the scientific get back to work. When he did, he lost track of time and forgot to leave early. He reached the house, feeling guilty, and looked for her children but could not find his wife. He asked for the children, and to his surprise, she said, "your manager was here around 5:15 ET it took the children to the exhibition" Apparently, Dr. Kalam had observed scientific and noticed that he could never realize that he had to go home. Feeling for children, he decided to take the children for him. If not sweet, what is?

No kidding. As President, Dr. Kalam has the right to invite anyone that the "clients" in the presidential Raj Bhavan Kerala during his first visit to Trivandrum. Dr. Kalam had spent significant time as a scientist in Trivandrum and invited a roadside cobbler - who was close to Dr Kalam during his time in Kerala; and so was the owner of the small hotel where Dr. Kalam would often have his meals.
Can you imagine any other politician or a celebrity inviting a shoemaker and a small business owner that their most prestigious guests?

#12. And the most important story - its contribution to space and defense programs of India:

Dr. Kalam was one of the few scientists who began working with ISRO in the early years of the agency. A Church became the workplace for the handful of rocket scientists of India - including Dr. Kalam; and a neighboring track has become the place where the edge of the fuse has been introduced.
Cycles and oxcarts were used in the 1970s and 1980s to transport rockets and pieces of whole satellites, and Dr. Kalam was one of the few scientists who have made important contributions to early space program from India. In fact, Dr. Kalam was the project director who developed the native SLV-III (Space Launch Vehicle) and also the PSLV - which is operational even today and has been used in the Moon and Mars missions. In 1980, SLV-III injected the Rohini satellite successfully into orbit close to Earth and has made India an exclusive member of the Club Area.
After working with ISRO, Dr. Kalam took responsibility for the development of indigenous guided missiles at the DRDO that led to the development of Agni and Prithvi missiles. He also led the Pokhran-II nuclear tests made India a nuclear weapon state.
It is said that during the regime of Indira Gandhi, Dr. Kalam was the man who convinced the Prime Minister for an advanced missile program for the country - and despite the disapproval of the Union Cabinet, PM Gandhi had secretly funded aerospace and defense projects Kalam. And the rest, as they say, is history.
